Saturday bike ride with the kids

So Saturday was a decent day for riding the bike.  After all the chores were done, we decided to have a family day!  My son was over, and we were going to the park for some play time, then to the library for some book-time.
Before we did all this though, since all the kids had been doing so great, I decided to surprise them with a reward.  They've always bugged me about when I could take them for a ride on my bike.  Well, without the proper safety gear, I didn't want to take them for a ride.  But late last year, I got a backrest for the kids.  Still had no helmet though.
Recently got an extra helmet though, so I figured I'd strap it on them and scoot around the block to see how they like it, and how good they do.  So I told them that the first one to get ready gets to ride the bike around the block with me.  Oh man, I wish they tackled all chores with the urgency that they did this one.

Elizabeth was first.  Put the helmet on her, explained how the bike moves, and not to freak out when it leans around corners.  And to hold on tight.  :)  So off we went.  She handles it like a champ.  The excitement on her face was classic!  Parker was next.  Oh man, nothing like a little boy on the back seat of dads scooter.  I could only imagine his face if I were to call the backrest a sissybar.  LOL  But like the true ham and cheese he is, he had to thumbs-up the camera.

After his trip, came Isabelle.  The grin on her face was ear to ear! They all did good.  Especially with the turns.  They loved the speed, Elizabeth told me she thinks that motorcycles go faster than cars.  I told her that it just feels like it.  :)  When Isabelle was riding, all I could hear for the first half of the trip was "WOOOOOOOOO"

But since they all did do really good with the trip around the block, and our town is not huge, we agreed that they could ride with me on our family day.  First leg of the trip was from the house to the park.  Isabelle got to ride with me for that stretch.  It was nice to ride through the park (which is a BEAUTIFUL ride), with someone I could talk to.  So we get to the park, and the kids run off to play.  From the park, we went to the library, and Parker got to ride with me for that one.  He had a blast.  I did have to remind him once or twice to hold onto me and not turn around to wave at my wife and the other kids.  But other than that, "IT WAS AMESOME!!" (his words, lol)

Then after the library, we decided to go to Dairy queen on the way home.  Elizabeth got to ride with me on that last stretch.  She was concerned that the other kids got longer rides than she did, so I took her along the scenic road overlooking the river and the rest of the city.  She seemed to like that.  :)

Overall, it was a good day, and I'm proud of the kids that they did so well on the bike.

Nocturne Confirmed Bugged

I'm a casual League of Legends (LoL) player.  And the most recent champ released was Nocturne.  A lot of controversy followed his release of him being overpowered.  He was designed as a perfect (IMO) assassin.

One of his spells, Unspeakable Horror, inflicts damage over 2 seconds, and if you stay within 600 units distance to the player over the course of those two seconds, you will fear that player as well.  This has been confirmed bugged:

It's bugged.
If you outleash it in the last quarter of a second, it will still fear you. If you outleash it earlier, you can break it.
Moral of the story: don't wait until the last second to teleport away.

Playoff Game 2

Tonights Game 2 of the Western Conference championship between Try-City Americans and the Vancouver Giants was... intense, to say the least.

Vancouver scored within the first minute to lead the Ams 1-0.  You could see, however, that each team was in the mood to play hard.  Ams soon tied it up, and eventually took the lead.

The third period was where all the action took place.  Ams were getting penalized for everything, while Vancouver walked free.  Seriously, it felt like we were playing against the Giants and the Refs.  The giants were almost on a constant powerplay throughout the third period.  Eventually, the Giants were able to whittle the 5-2 lead down to a 5-4 lead.

Going into the last few minutes of the game, the physicality of the game increased higher than ever, with scuffles breaking out everywhere.  Vancouver pulled the goalie to get an extra skater out there for offense.  That strategy failed though, as Drew Owsley was able to hold back the onslaught and prevent Vancouver from scoring, leaving the Ams to win the game at 5-4.

Paul

The first thing I heard about this movie, from a friend, is that you need a PHD in nerd-speak to get all the jokes.  Sure as shit.. after sitting through the movie tonight, there were so many in-jokes, and references from other sci-fi flicks, that I couldn't keep up with them.

That excitement aside, the movie itself was very good.

Imagine Fanboys, mixed with a bit of Spaced, and a little Clerks thrown in the mix.  If you get those references, you will absolutely LOVE Paul.  If you aren't familiar with those references, then.. well.. you will still like the movie.

You got a couple of nerdy friends on a roadtrip to visit all the places of sci-fi lore in the western United States.  Along the way, they meet up with an actual alien.  Who, serendipitously, is able to speak fluent english, with only the minor drawl of a stoner accent.  They then embark on an adventure to help Paul the Alien to get to his destination, while avoiding cops, feds, hillbillies, and bible thumping papa.

Wether you're an all out fanboy nerd, or just a minor participant of the genre, you will enjoy the flick.

Needless to say, that the writing team of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are top-notch.  They just continue to demonstrate their abilities to hone in on this niche.  And I love it.  We need more artists who are willing to Alienate mainstream mentality, in the aim of appeasing to a growing audience of nerds.

Game one of the WHL Playoffs done

Last night at 7:05, the puck dropped for what would be the start of a great series.  The Try-City Americans hosted the Vancouver Giants in Game 1 of the first round of the Western Conference Championships.

Regular season matchups between these two teams were fun to watch.  The first game, Try-City routed the Giants 9-1.  That was back in December.  January's match resulted in another Americans win, at 5-2.

February, however, Vancouver beat the Americans 5-0.  This happened when the main goaltender, Drew Owsley, was on the injured list, and the Americans were starting 16 year old backup rookie Chris Driedger.  In March, the Americans again defeated the Giants, 5-1.  This was after Owsley came back from the injured roster.

So its easy to say that on a full strength roster, the Americans have defeated the Giants at every opportunity.

So with Owsley back in front of the net, how did Game 1 turn out?  Vancouver scored first, leading the Americans 1-0 through the first period.  Second period was tense, as neither teams scored.  Third period ended up with the Americans tying the game at 1-1, thanks to Conrad.

Both teams showed amazing offense and defense, and it seemed almost evenly matched.  So much so, that the teams went into overtime.  With the OT period running on, and no teams scoring, it was an extremely tense period.  Americans had three power plays during this period, but the Giants killed every one of them.

But with literally seconds left on the clock, Carter Ashton was able to sneak in a goal to give the Americans the lead for the first time in the game.  That lead was all that was needed, as the OT period ended with the Americans 2 over the Giants 1.

So the Americans go into tonights Game 2 with a 1-0 lead.  Hopefully they can make it a 2-0 lead before they head up to Vancouver the continue the series.

Bacon cinnamon rolls

So I found this on another blog that my wife forwarded me recently.   Real easy to do.   Buy canned cinnamon rolls, unroll them, place cooked bacon in them and roll them back up.

We did a batch without bacon as well. They're cooking as we speak.  Might update later if I can pull myself away from them lol.

Being Human

So I started watching the US version of Being Human.  I say 'US Version' since it started as a BBC series.  I didn't know this until I called my sister after my first episode and asked her if she'd seen it.

"I got the British one from Netflix, and liked that one".

Well, needless to say, I kept watching the US version, and I really liked it.

For those that aren't in the know, it's a show about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost all living.. OK.. residing.. in the same house.  They want to live as much of a human life as they can, and try not to be the monsters that they are forced to live life as.  It's a cute show.  Sometimes you forget that Aidan, the vampire, is hundreds of years old and has been slaughtering people for food ever since his creation.  He wants to put that all behind him now, and regain some humanity.  The werewolf, Josh.

Think of that emo kid down the street in middle-class america.  Dresses all in black, thinks the world is against him, hates life, wants to die, but is doing it all for the attention.

Now imagine a guy who actually does have a shitty life.  He has every reason in the world to want to call it quits.  He does play the woe-is-me card a bit, but I think thats acceptable, being that he really is trying to live life as a 'normal'.

Then there's Sally.  The ghost.  She resides in the house that Josh and Aidan rent together.  She is the remains of a former life with her young fiancĂ©e and doesn't know what to do with herself now that she cannot interact with anyone of the non-supernatural variety.  She's got attitude, and when she learns how to shake the house, watch out!

Overall, the show is very enjoyable for me.  It is not the run-of-the-mill supernatural crossover thats come out in the recent years.  It is a bit of a new concept... even if it was Britain's new concept.  :D

My new blog

So, this isn't my first post, but it's my introduction.  You can call me killtrip.  My intentions for this blog is to make it a place to go for geeky news.. as if there isn't enough of them already.

My approach for this blog however, is that my interests are VERY wide and varied.  I will talk about TV shows.  I will talk about video games.  I will talk about music.  I will talk about my job.

You can expect something new from me every day.  And by following my posts, and reading my blog, you will learn a great deal about me and my interests.  So, I hope you come back!

Marcel's Quantum Kitchen

Marcel's Quantum Kitchen premiered last night on SyFy.. (Sci-Fi channel).  It looked like it could be an interesting watch, as I'd seen this kid on Top Chef.  He seemed like a douche on Top Chef, but thought I'd give him another chance.

Goddammit I was wrong.  While the show was mildly interesting, the cooking concepts were quite interesting, this kid is a giant fucking douchebag!  He's an idiot that thrives on attention, and he's getting it.

There were times when he seemed realistic.  Even a somewhat decent guy, but 90% of the time, he was bitching about everyone, and how hard his job was because of the actions of others.

The editing of the show was quite out of hand as well.  At one point, Marcel was asking a non-chef (whom he hired for the catering business front end aspect) to prepare some apple stuff.  She was slow as shit, and she stated that she was worried for her job due to her slowness...  suddenly we get the back and forth, overly dramatic edits between her face showing concern, to his face showing contempt, back to her face, then to his, and so forth..  Way overdone.

I will probably give the show another chance, see if the cheese in this show gets melted down to something manageable.
